Embroidered Butees-12

I promised my sis that I would work on one of her saris and design something new. It is a double shaded sari in shimmer. I don't have its photo. It is a mixture of purple and gold I think. I completely forgot about it as I had packed all my stash and fabrics, saris, dresses I wanted to work on and those I was working on as I had to take care of my mother after her eye surgery and also for the past six months I had so much going on on my work front.

Well, I am going through my things and trying to organise them into some sort of order. I came across these embroidered butees that bought for my sis's sari. 

You can see the silk thread and gold work-using gold threads. These butees which are now in market are different from the previous ones, I have posted. These have stones.That makes these patches more bright. I have chosen patches with less stones. Some of them have more stones, so many that they look like jewels.

The above is the lotus shaped patch.

Here you can see more stones. Only white stones are being used in these patches. I have gone through many patches with different colour combinations, but all have white stones. I picked this colour because it suited my sis's sari.

These patches are quite costly-more stones, more costly. I was the first one to pick these up, when they were received as samples. So I had very few patches to choose from considering the design, colour and budget. 

What do you think of them?

Well I need to attach them to my sis's sari. I also have some of my own which need to be completed. But I am still not feeling well and need lot of rest to get back my energy to do all these. So many ideas cross my mind for creating and experimenting new things. But then I don't have much strength to try out them. With Diwali first approaching, I have my hands full.....

I have also created so many Rangolis for Diwali. I need to pen them properly before posting them.

Friends, recently I went shopping for laces and other embroidery materials. I could not resist picking up a few of these. It is Peacock Butee again but in a different shape.

Isn't it pretty. I am yet to use these. I am not finding time to attach them to my saris and dresses.

Hope you like this motif.

Here is the last butee in this series. This one is smallest of the available. I bought this for the blouse to match the sari as well as some to be used for the sari itself.

All these butees were available in different sizes, designs and shapes. Some were filled with heavy work and some were very simple. The price depended upon the size and  amount of work done etc. I choose a few of the variety for my sari. It will take some time for me to complete attaching them. I will post the pictures as soon as I have completed the work.

I feel that  they looked very grand and not loud. I plan to attach them to a silk sari. I am yet to start it as I am constantly travelling and I am also in a quandary as to on which colour sari would these look good. I have few silk saris with me on which I wanted to do some work. Let us see.

I liked it the moment I saw. Its elongated tail was the main attraction for me. I bought a few for the pallu of my sari. Here is a closer look at various parts of the Peacock, so that you can note it down and use it.

Here is another one...

This one is different from the first pattern I have posted. This design shows the peacock on its side profile, where as the first one was facing us. See how the work has been done. See the use of threads, metal bullions, purls and kundans.

There were so many varieties of these Peacocks to choose from. I choose some of them for one of my saris.

This is the second butee-the head is turned on the other side. All the remaining is same.

You can use these as single butees or as pairs facing each other. Pairs would look good for pallu area.

Peacock is the most beautiful bird. Its out national bird. Who can deny the beauty of a Peacock. But the funniest part here is that it is the male who has the most beautiful feathers in its train-tail feathers. OK OK I do not want to hurt the feelings of Males. But then God can sometimes be naughty. Don't you agree with me?

Now coming to the main story...I am going to post this whole week(I will do my best) from today some of the most beautiful embroidered butees on Peacocks..so follow me on this blog..

Here is the first one. The magnificent Peacock in all its glory. It reminds me of the Indian Monsoons, the smell of earth when the first drops fall on it, the thunders and lightening, and then the colourful Rainbows, the Peacocks displaying their train....This beauty has been captured here in this embroidered butee or patch... 

                    Peacock Butee

It is a patch, done on a stiff blue cloth with silk threads of blues,greens and reds, gold and other metallic threads-gold and other coloured bullions, purls, sequins, coloured kundans or stones and gold beads. The patch is backed by a fabric so that you don't have to bother about the ugly back side showing through the materials. Since the patch is stiff, it is easy to handle.

Below is a close look at the top portion.

Just have a closer look. These can be stuck on to fabric-saris, kurthis or dresses as you like, or just tack the edges to secure them.

Those of you who can embroider this design  can do so on a thick silk fabric. Alas! I don't have that much time or energy though I would love to give it a try.

Embroidered Butees-3

Here I am again with some more butees. 

This is in the shape of the eye of Peacock feather. The colours you can see -pink, dark and peacock blue and green. This has been embroidered with silk threads and sequins with a mirror in the center. The patch has been backed by a stiff cloth.

All we need to do is either attach it to the sari, or blouse or dress with fabric glue or stitches or better both.

This is sold at per piece rate. Other colours are also available as also in other shapes.This as you can see is not heavily embroidered with gold or kundan work. Very light work and not too loud or heavy work.


I need to attach them to my sari. So I will post them as soon as I attach them. Keep a watch on my blog....

Here are some more butees:

These are Kairi (Hindi) or Mamidi Pindelu (Telugu) meaning mango fruit shaped or Paisely. You can see the green and white stone with the zari(gold) work.

This  is on velvet with zari and kundans.

Here is one more motif a slightly different one but again paisley.

These are small in size. Bigger sizes are also available. I am going to attach them to my sari. Just give me some time. Right now I am busy with so much work.

Embroidered Butees-1

I have been posting about laces and borders that can be attached to saris, dresses, chunaris etc.  These are all the most in thing now. These days, many of the sarees, blouses, dresses like tunics(kurthas) and Pants, odhnis or chunaris etc have these borders or laces attached to them. 

I am now going to post on some Butees to. Butees or embroidered Butees pronounced as booties are embroidered motifs. 

• These are available in circular, triangular, square or other shaped patches. 
• The size also varies from very tiny ones to very huge ones. 
• Available in different colours like gold, silver, copper or antique, red, yellow, pink, blue green depending upon the colour of the silk thread or kundan or stone used.
• Gold, silver, copper threads or metallic purls, kundan stones, silk threads etc are embroidered into different shaped motifs. 
• The work used in these may be, simple, silk or gold embroidery, Zardosi, Antique work, Kundan work etc. 
• These patches are done on stiff cloth and are very easy to attach to saris, blouses, kurthas etc. All we have to do is attach them in the required manner.
• This saves lot of time and energy and we don't have to be experts of various embroideries. Moreover when embroidering directly on saris or some other clothing, even a small mistake will cost us a lot. The beauty of the entire work is lost.
• These patches of various shapes and sizes can be used for creating our own designs or motifs on the cloth.
• These patches can be attached to plain saris but these days they are being attached to even printed materials to enhance or high light their beauty.
• These look good on almost any fabrics-cottons, chiffons, crepes especially silks.
• These are available as number of pieces (bigger sized ones) and in packs of 25, 50 or 100 for smaller ones. 
• Price varies with the size and the material used in the patches. But most of them are affordable.

So  here we go....

This is a small flower. See the gold work and the green coloured stone in the center.

See how on the back side it is backed by another cloth to give it stiffness as well as  protects the stitches of the work. So it looks neat when attached to very sheer fabrics. These are available in different colours. I bought this as a pack of 50.
